Police Commendation Awards

HONORABLE SERVICE MEDAL

On July 8, 2020, there was a subject in custody for Domestic Violence, resisting arrest, and threatening officers with a handgun.  This offender was placed in the Department’s cells for later transport to the Union County Jail.

Officer Joel Lopez was working his first day as a Springfield Police Officer and was at the desk area with Sergeant Melissa Esteves who was handling calls coming in.

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that there will be a SPECIAL PUBLIC MEETING of the Township Committee of the Township of Springfield on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2nd floor, 100 Mountain Avenue.  The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the following:

 

Pool Open House Saturday!

The Summit Area YMCA -- operator of the Springfield Community Pool this summer -- is hosting a luau-style open house on Saturday, June 12, 2021, from 1:00-6:00 pm. The pool complex at 44 Morrison Road will be open for swimming, swim evaluations, facility tours, membership sign-up, ID card pick-up, and more! Miele's Concessions -- the new snack bar concessionaire -- will have a full menu available. If you haven't joined or visited the pool in a few years, please visit during the open house and learn about pool membership, pool camp, swim team, swim lessons, lap swim, snack bar, and more!

Volunteers Tend to Senior Citizen Garden

The senior citizen garden located at the Chisholm Community Center continues to bloom with bountiful crops thanks to the efforts of volunteers (pictured, left to right) Dora Vaynberg, Patricia Martin, and Louis Cantagallo. Planted in the expanded garden plots are flowers and vegetables that are enjoyed by senior citizens who frequent the building. A comfortable seating area and rain barrel are adjacent to the garden.

Caldwell School Student Henrik Goodwin Replenishes the Fish Tank at the Springfield Library

                Something definitely seemed fishy as Springfield Library Director watched fourth grader Henrik Goodwin walked through the library, on his way to the children’s room, carrying two large plastic bags containing water and fish.   Only then did she remember that Henrik, a budding fish enthusiast, had promised  children’s librarian Brie Mintz that he would replenish the dwindling supply of fish currently taking laps around the children’s room fish tank.  Accompanied by his fathe
