Chamber of Commerce Meeting

Last week's Springfield Patriot Chamber of Commerce meeting was held at the new Hilton Garden Inn on Route 22 West in Springfield.  Reports were given by various Township employees to the Chamber members and Mike Scalera, the Networking Coordinator for the Chamber mentioned multi-chamber event to be held at the Hilton in June.  The Lions Club mentioned their eyeglass collection program with a drop off box at Kearny Bank on Mountain Ave.  A household hazardous waste pick-up will be done on May 7th and the Arbor Day Celebration was discussed.

May is Maasai Month at Saint James the Apostle School

 As part of a year-long initiative to raise money to aid the Maasai tribe in Africa and other hungry people throughout the world, Saint James the Apostle School has planned several events as a final push to reach their goal of $5,000 to “Fill the Ark” and purchase a share in one of Heifer International’s livestock initiatives.  At the end of April they held a t-shirt design contest and a Maasai Masters painting class after school for interested students.

Springfield's Newest Police Officer Sworn into Office

Springfield’s newest Police Officer, Emmett Badai, was administered the Oath of Office by Mayor Diane Stampoulos at the May 2 meeting of the Township Committee    Chief of Police John Cook commented that Officer Badai meets the high standards set for Springfield Police Officers.  According to Chief Cook, he is a graduate of Piscataway High School, and received a degree in Criminal Justice from Rutgers.  Officer Badai has an excellent work ethic and comes to us after graduating the John Stamler Police Academy in December 2016.
