Dayton Athletics: Thursday's results, Friday & Saturday schedule

Yesterday, Jonathan Dayton High School's Varsity Baseball team won over Roselle Catholic High School, 12-5, while the Varsity Softball team won over Union Catholic Regional High School, 12-3, in the first round of the Union County Tournament.

Friday's schedule includes the Varsity Boys Tennis team playing in the Union County Tournament at the Von Blake Tennis Courts in Plainfield at 9:00am while the some members of the Coed Varsity Spring Track team are at Franklin Field at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for the Penn Relays.

Rotary Taste of the Town a Big Hit!

The Springfield Rotary's Taste of the Towns was held at the new Hilton Garden Inn at 304 Route 22 West Monday night April 24th.  This was one of the first Township events to be held at the new Hotel.  The ballroom was filled with local area restaurants.  In addition, over 70 silent auction items were sold as well.  Rotarian Dr. Gary Hecht, when interviewed by the Patriot Times commented "We sold in excess of 240 tickets and this was one of the best attended Taste of the Towns we have done in several years.

Springfield Library Friends Spring Sale Children’s and YA Books Plus Select Fashion Accessories  May 3-6, 201

The Friends of the Springfield Free Public Library Book Sale this year will be a Children’s and YA’s Book Sale plus Select Fashion Accessories and it will be held Wednesday - Saturday, May 3 - 6, 2017 at the Library, 66 Mountain Ave. in Springfield.  The Sale hours will be Wednesday, May 3, noon-8:30 pm and Thursday-Saturday, 10 am-4 pm.

Dayton Sports Friday & Saturday Results, Schedule for Monday, April 24

On Friday, April 21, Dayton's Varsity Boys Tennis team fell to Governor Livingston 1-4.

On Saturday, April 22, Dayton's Varsity Baseball team lost 2-3 while the Junior Varsity team won 16-2, both against Linden High School. The Varsity Boys Tennis team won against Oratory Prep 3-2.

Monday, April 24, features the Varsity Golf team against Abraham Clark High School and Plainfield High School at 3:15 PM at the Baltusrol Golf Club and the Varsity Softball team against David Brearley High School on the Dayton Softball Turf Field at 4:00 PM.

American Legion Post 228 Presents Awards

At the Township Committee meeting on April 18, Gerry Gebauer Commander of Post 228 presented the American Legion Longevity award to retired Springfield Police Officer Donald Schwerdt for 60 years of membership. Shown (L-R) are Schwerdt, 71 year member Raymond Schramm and Gebauer. In an exclusive interview with the Patriot Times, Commander Gebauer commented "Being a member of the American Legion seems to increase your longevity of life!"

During the month of May, leading up to the Memorial Day Parade, the Legion will be distributing poppys around town.
