Glen Ave, closure / Old Short Hills Rd and Millburn Center, Major traffic delays Commuters that use Old Short Hills Rd. and/or Glen Ave. through Millburn Twp during their commute should plan alternate routes beginning February 17, 2014. Essex County will be replacing a bridge on Glen Ave. (between Brookside Dr. and Lackawanna Pl.) starting on February 17th, 2014. Glen Ave. will be closed 24 hrs a day for up to 6 months between Brookside Dr. to Lackawanna Pl. This closure is expected to cause major delays on the following roadways: Old Short Hills Rd./ Main St./ Millburn Ave./ Essex St.

Commuters traveling from municipalities north of Millburn attempting to access Rt. 78, Rt. 22, and municipalities in Union County should find an alternate route. We have listed several alternate routes below. Please become familiar with each and consider making one of them your temporary route during this construction project.

From the intersection of Old Short Hills Rd. and South Orange Ave. Route # 1‐ Head east on South Orange Ave. through the South Mountain Reservation to the third (3rd) traffic light and turn right onto Wyoming Ave. Traveling on Wyoming Ave. your first (1st) traffic light will be Glen Ave. and the second (2nd) will be Millburn Ave. Turn left on Millburn Ave. to access Vaux Hall Rd. to Rt. 78/turn right to access Millburn Downtown area

Route #2‐ Head west on South Orange Ave. to the first (1st) traffic light and turn left onto White Oak Ridge Rd. make the first (1st) right turn to continue on White Oak Ridge Rd. go to the fourth (4th) traffic light (this includes a blinking light) and turn left for access to Rt. 24 east (to Rt. 78) or stay on Morris Turnpike to access Morris Ave.

Route #3‐ Head west on South Orange Ave. to the second (2nd) traffic light and turn left onto JFK Parkway southbound. After the fourth (4th) light bear right to access Rt. 24 east (to Rt. 78) From the intersection of Parsonage Hill Rd. and Passaic Ave.

Route #1‐ Travel east on Parsonage Hill Rd. past the East Orange Golf Course and turn right onto the entrance ramp of JFK Parkway south. After the fourth (4th) light bear right to access Rt. 24 east (to Rt. 78)

Route #2‐ Travel east on Parsonage Hill Rd. past the East Orange Golf Course to the first (1st) traffic and turn right onto White Oak Ridge Rd., continue on White Oak Ridge Rd. go to the fourth (4th) traffic light (this includes a blinking light) and turn left for access to Rt. 24 east (to Rt. 78) or stay on Morris Turnpike to access Morris Ave.

If your commute currently takes you through Millburn Twp. on the roads that are expecting major delays in traffic flow, Millburn Police Department’s Traffic Bureau strongly recommends that you learn and utilize one of the alternate routes listed or establish your own alternative for the morning and evening rush hour commutes.
