Support the One Run for Boston Race in Springfield!

The One Run for Boston is a cross country, 3328 mile, 2,000 runner relay going from Santa Monica to Boston to support the survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing. Begun on March 16, in Santa Monica, it will pass through New Jersey, including Springfield, starting early in the morning on April 11 and finish in Boston on April 13, two days before the first anniversary of last year’s tragic events.

Last year, the One Run for Boston was organized in just weeks after the bombing, raising $91,000 for the One Fund to assist survivors and the families impacted. This year, the goal is $1 million for the One Fund which provides financial support for survivors, many of whom still struggle from injuries sustained during the bombing.

On Friday, April 11, runners working their way to Boston will pass through Springfield. The estimated time of coming through Springfield is approximately 12:30 PM. The route through Springfield will be coming from Summit by Briant Park, east on Shunpike Road to Mountain Avenue, north on Mountain Avenue to Town Hall where the baton will be passed to the next group of runners.

There will be about 15 – 20 minutes of photo opportunities, etc. for the runners in front of the Springfield Town Hall.

Chief Cook will be in communication with the group to obtain a more precise time prior to their entering Springfield. Springfield Police officers will be giving the group a Police escort from Summit, through Springfield and into Union where Union will pick up the escort.

Show your support for the runners by coming outside in front of Town Hall as the runners arrive.

Tell your co-workers and friends.
