Red Ribbon Week
Oct 23-31
Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention
campaign in the country. This year Red Ribbon Week will be
celebrated in Springfield from October 23-31, 2015.
Red Ribbon Week serves as a way for communities, individuals
and families to focus on keeping our children safe through a
commitment to drug abuse prevention and education and a
commitment to live healthy, drug free lives and build safer
communities. Additionally, Red Ribbon Week commemorates the
ultimate sacrifice made by DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki"
Camarena, who died at the hands of drug traffickers in Mexico
while fighting the battle against illegal drugs to keep our country
50% of adolescent deaths are alcohol related and 75% of all
preventable death is caused by alcohol, drug and tobacco use. The
average age for the inception of alcohol, tobacco, marijuana and
other drug use is 12 years.
Communicating a clear and consistent family policy about alcohol,
tobacco, marijuana and other drug use delays or prevents drug
usage. Studies show that families who have conversations during
the elementary school years are less likely to have issues later on.
Please wear Red on Monday, Oct 26 along with the other
schools in the district in honor of Enrique Camerena and the
ultimate sacrifice he made.
