Springfield to Host Paper Shredding Event on Saturday, June 18th

Thanks to our sponsors

The Township of Springfield Recycling Department would like to announce the establishment of a paper shredding event to be held on Saturday, June 18that the Springfield Municipal Pool parking lot. Hours of operation will be between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm. This service will be supplied at no cost to the residents of Springfield, it is funded through various recycling grants.Proof of residency is required. In order to accommodate all residents everyone will be limited to four bags or boxes of documents not weighing more than 10 pounds each. Absolutely no businesses will be allowed. All shredded material is recycled, providing a secure and environmentally sustainable way to dispose of unwanted documents. There are two major advantages to this event; one is the secure destruction of personal documents and the other is the benefit of disposing of material in an environmentally safe and sustainable manner.

On a personal level, paper shredding helps protect individuals from identity theft and consumer fraud. Examples of documents that may be shredded are ATM receipts, bank statements, copies of social security numbers, Canceled and voided checks, credit and charge card bills, medical records, etc.

On an environmental level, a sustainable environment is critical to protecting and maintaining the earths’ resources for future generations. How will our paper shredding event contribute to sustainability and help protect our natural resources? The answer is simple!
Instead of using virgin wood fiber, recycling one ton of paper would;
 save approximately 17 trees
 save enough energy to power the average American home for six months
 save 7,000 gallons of water
 save 4100 kw of energy
 save 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space
 reduce greenhouse gas emissions by one metric ton of carbon equivalent (MTCE)*
