At the Township Committee meeting on April 18, Gerry Gebauer Commander of Post 228 presented the American Legion Longevity award to retired Springfield Police Officer Donald Schwerdt for 60 years of membership. Shown (L-R) are Schwerdt, 71 year member Raymond Schramm and Gebauer. In an exclusive interview with the Patriot Times, Commander Gebauer commented "Being a member of the American Legion seems to increase your longevity of life!"

During the month of May, leading up to the Memorial Day Parade, the Legion will be distributing poppys around town.
