Candidates Forum Highlights by Jesse Broome

On the evening of Wednesday, October 18, 2017, Springfield Town Hall hosted a Candidate Forum to listen to this year’s choices for the open Springfield Township Committee seat. Incumbent Geri Ann Bujnowski (R) squared off against Chris Capodice (D) and Jeff Rosenberg (I) to convey who is the best candidate while discussing a wide range of topics such as town development projects, township communication with residents, power outages, and flooding issues.

The evening, sponsored by the Patriot Chamber of Commerce and TAPinto Springfield, opened with remarks from Lorraine Seidel, who paid homage to former Mayor Marcia Forman, who started the Candidates Forum during her tenure. The forum was met with a high turnout, more than 50 individuals packed town hall and stayed for the entire 90-minute debate.

Questions for the debate were submitted by members of the audience in addition to those collected online by TAPinto Springfield. Michael Scalera, Co-Chairman of the Patriot Chamber of Commerce, introduced each of the candidates. The evening was then moderated by Dr. Gary Hecht, a long-time business owner in the community, who read each question to the candidates.
