Springfield Township Committee Honor Retiring Police Lieutenant, Approves Eagle Scout Project.

The Springfield Township Committee Meeting on November 28, 2017 opened by recognizing one of Springfield’s finest. After a 38-year career with the Springfield Police Department, Lieutenant Judd Levenson announced his retirement. Mayor Diane Stampoulos heralded Lt. Levenson’s service to the community via a proclamation. Police Chief Cook also provided some kind words for the longtime officer.

Lieutenant Levenson’s retirement announcement was followed by a report from Adam Lieb, Recreation Director, who announced an Eagle Scout project proposed by Frankie Sarracino of Boy Scout Troop 73. The project included the placement of a collection box for retired American flags at the Chisholm Community Center as well as beautification work, which will consist of the installation of new benches and creation of a garden. Frankie presented his ideas along with some visual aids for the project to the Township Committee, who approved the project unanimously.

In addition to the Eagle Scout project, Adam Lieb announced School’s Out Soccer Camp during winter break (Wednesday, December 27 – Friday, December 29). The soccer clinic will be held in association with US Sports Institute and geared toward children ages 5-11. For adults, the Chisholm Community Center will be starting an adult dodgeball league, organized by Zog Sports. The league will be held on Thursday nights beginning in January 2018.

During the public comment section of the meeting, Barbara Hickey of the Springfield Flood Mitigation Committee spoke about gaining more support from the Township Committee. The Committee recognized the request by adding this to a future agenda item. Ultimately, the discussion centered on having a Township Committee Member present at monthly meetings of the Springfield Flood Mitigation Committee and including regular updates by the group to the Township Committee.
