Recreation Department and Senior Citizens Club Host Evan Weiner for "Women in Sports" Zoom Lecture

A virtual audience of Springfield senior citizens learned about "Women in Sports: Sexism & Racism" from author Evan Weiner yesterday, Tuesday, April 20, 2021. In the monthly Zoom presentation provided by the Recreation Department and the Senior Citizens Club, Weiner's talk focused on women's progress in the historical, political, financial, and athletic world of sports. Figures discussed included, among many others, Ann Meyers, Bernice Gera, Althea Gibson, Wilma Rudolph, Billie Jean King, Kathrine Switzer, Patsy Mink, Nancy Lopez, Jennie Finch, Misty May-Treanor, Sheryl Swoopes, Brandi Chastain, Katie Ledecky, Lindsay Vohn, Danica Patrick, Megan Rapinoe, Martina Navratilova, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, Nadia Comaneci, the Battle of the Sexes, and the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. Weiner is a speaker and author with a background in television and radio.
