The Union County Board of County Commissioners would like to remind you of several free recycling events coming up in May.   

Union County’s Scrap Metal Recycling program will continue on Saturday, May 15th.   There are two (2) locations in Union County for residents to drop off their metal for recycling, one in Cranford and Rahway.  The location of the Cranford drop- off is the Emergency Services/ Traffic Enforcement facility located at 151 Kenilworth Boulevard.  The Rahway drop-off is located at the Rahway Service Yard at Rahway Park on St. Georges Avenue.  The program is open from 9 am to 12 pm.  Residents can drop off old appliances, microwaves, air conditioners, and metal lawn furniture to name a few.  

Union County is also continuing their Mobile Paper Shredding Events in May. The next event will be held on Saturday, May 15th at Nokia which is located at 600 Mountain Avenue in New Providence. The event will run from 9 am to 1 pm or until the truck(s) get filled.  Residents can bring up to four bags of confidential documents per vehicle for shredding.  Please DO NOT bring material that is already shredded.

The next Household Hazardous Waste Program will be on Saturday, June 5th at Union County College located at 1033 Springfield Avenue in Cranford.  The event will be held from 9 am to 2pm.  Items for drop off include old pesticides & herbicides, pool chemicals, gasoline, oil-based paints and deck stain.  Latex Paint/Acrylic/Enamel (wall paint) is water-based and is NOT ACCEPTED.  It should be dried out and discarded in with your regular garbage.
