Recreation Hosts Zoom Lecture on New York City Skyscrapers for Senior Citizens

Thanks to our sponsors

A virtual audience of Springfield senior citizens learned about "NYC Skyscrapers: 1870-1931" from lecturer and photographer Kevin Woyce on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. Woyce's talk used "original photographs and historic images...[to] tell the stories of New York's greatest skyscrapers, from the 1890 New York World building to the Woolworth, Chrysler, and Empire State buildings of the early 1930s." Woyce shared "how and why these landmarks were built, and introduce[d] the architects and businessmen whose visions shaped the world-famous skyline." This was the final Zoom presentation of the monthly series that began in January 2021 -- provided by the Springfield Recreation Department and the Springfield Senior Citizens Club -- designed to reach residents not yet comfortable with in-person group settings.
