Extremely Important Update from Library Director Dale Spindel

Thanks to our sponsors

During the upcoming week, library staff members will be working alongside members of the Springfield DPW staff and outside contractors to put the finishing touches in place in anticipation of the grand reopening of the Springfield Free Public Library at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 14!!

With a reopening date now in sight, we are finally ready to accept back all of those books and AV materials that you have been holding onto for us all this time. You will be able to use the outdoor drops on Center Street and at the library’s front door to return items according to the following schedule:

Monday & Tuesday, March 7-8  8:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Wednesday & Thursday, March 9-10
8:00 AM – 7:00 PM

Friday, March 11
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Saturday, March 12
9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Please note that this schedule coincides with the times when staff members will be present to periodically remove items from the drops. Just for this one week, the outdoor drops will be locked at all times other than those listed above. When the book drops are locked, please do not try to force open the doors or leave items next to the drops or by any of the library’s entrances.

Your efforts to get items returned to the library at the times listed above will help ensure that our grand reopening will go as smoothly as possible.

In addition to the members of the Board of Trustees and library staff, I also want to take this opportunity to thank everybody who has helped us reach the point we are at now, including the following: the Mayor’s representative to the Library Board, Chris Capodice; Mayor Alexander Keiser; Deputy Mayor Chris Weber; Committeewoman Erica Dubois; Committeeman Richard Huber; Township Engineer Mike Disko; Township Business Administrator John Bussiculo and Township Chief Financial Officer Diane Sherry.

I also want to give a special shout out to Robert Boettcher, Springfield Township’s Head of DPW plus everyone on his wonderful team who have worked so hard on behalf of the library, and most especially during those very stressful days right after the hurricane struck.

Lastly, I want to extend my most sincere appreciation to all of our wonderful patrons who sent emails with good wishes, words of support, and offers to donate time, money or books.

Speaking for the Library Board and staff members as well as for myself, we really can’t wait to welcome everybody back. As always, please reach out to me at [email protected] with your questions, comments and concerns.
