Springfield’s Historic Cannonball House, located at 126 Morris Ave., will be open on December 4th from two to four. On display will be a special exhibit highlighting the 250th Anniversary of the Civil War. Its contents include a newspaper from 1861 reporting the firing on Fort Sumter and some of the many letters written by Wellington Briant, following his enlistment in October of 1861. These letters contain fascinating details of military life and Briant’s impressions of the South.
In celebration of the holiday season, the house will be decorated for the occasion, c. 1840, and the origins of some Christmas traditions will be discussed. Refreshments will also be on hand for visitors to enjoy. So come visit us for a festive outing during which you can discover how the Cannonball House got it’s name!
Hours: Sunday, December 4th from 2 to 4.
