The Township of Springfield will light the Christmas Tree at Town Hall with a seasonal musical tribute on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 5:30-8:00 pm, outside Town Hall and the First Aid Squad. In the event of rain or snow, the free celebration will be postponed until the next day, Thursday, December 4, 2025. Prior to the tree lighting countdown, the community will be treated to live performances by Taye McQueen, singer, actress, and Jonathan Dayton High School Class of 2011 graduate; students from Front & Center for Performing Arts of Springfield; and the Jonathan Dayton High School All Stars. The program will feature greetings by the Springfield Township Committee, as well as appearances by a stilt-walking Toy Soldier and the Grinch. Scouts from Troop #73 will be on hand to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Santa Claus will make a spirited entrance and pose for photos. Returning this year: horse-drawn carriage rides and a petting zoo! New this year: Children can take turns jumping inside the inflatable Snowman Igloo! During the event, hot pretzels will be provided by the Springfield Recreation Department, give-aways by the Springfield Business Improvement District (B.I.D.), give-aways by the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, and dessert courtesy of the Springfield F.M.B.A. Local #57. Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.) Church and Cannon Chapter will be offering sponsorships for veteran's wreaths for Wreaths Across America and coloring pages for children. PM Pediatric Urgent Care has joined the event as a financial sponsor. Questions? Contact the Springfield Recreation Department at recreation@springfield-nj.us or (973) 912-2227.
