Springfield Police Department Invites Public Comment on Accreditation Assessment

A team of assessors from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police (NJSACOP) will arrive on June 8, 2014 to examine all aspects of the Springfield Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services Police Chief John Cook announced today.

“Verification by the team that the Springfield Police Department meets the Commission’s “best practice” standards is part of a voluntary process to achieve accreditation, a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence”, Chief Cook said.

The Springfield Chapter of Hadassah has names Robin L. Ross Woman of the Year

The Springfield Chapter of Hadassah has named Robin L. Ross Woman of the Year. She will be honored at a luncheon on Sunday, June 22, 12 noon at Sofia's restaurant on Morris Ave in Springfield, NJ.
Mrs. Ross grew up in Springfield and received her BS degree in Biology from Cedar Crest college, Allentown, Pa. She hods a Masters of Science in Biology and Business from Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ and a diploma from the American Academy-McAllister Institute of Funeral Service , New York, from which she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1997.

Temple Sha'arey Shalom of Springfield invites the community to a concert of Yiddish songs, "Shpil Zhe Mir A Lidele," on Sunday, June 1, at 4 pm. This special event is being presented as a tribute to the memory of longtime Temple member Salo Enis, who passed away in October, 2013, at the age of 96.

Spring Walk in the Houdaille Quarry

The Houdaille Quarry, often called the “Grand Canyon of Union
County”, and normally closed to the public, will be open on Sunday,
May 4th at 1:30 PM for walking tours sponsored by the Springfield
Environmental Commission.
The Quarry is an ecologically unique wild area in Springfield,
located between Rt.78 and Mount View Rd., with trails to a deep basin and
to a beautiful pond where wild turkeys, foxes, coyotes and colorful
migrating birds have been spotted. It is an important part of the greenway
